Ensuring Data Quality in Nationwide Health Systems Research
I'm excited to share that I led the data quality control for the quantitative component of the national assessment for Blood Transfusion in Bangladesh.
This involved:
- Training Field Research Assistants on data collection protocols, ethics, and error handling.
- Monitoring data collection in real-time and conducting supervisory field visits to identify and correct inconsistencies.
- Using STATA for remote quality checks, including various methods and consistency validation.
- Managing a strategic re-visit plan to facilities in Dhaka, Faridpur, Barisal, Jessore, Khulna, Comilla, Chattogram, and Cox’s Bazar to verify key variables.
- Facilitating debriefing sessions with field teams to address recurring issues and ensure consistency.
This experience enhanced my skills in quality assurance, problem-solving, and team supervision within a complex national health system.
My key takeaway is that data quality is about more than just clean spreadsheets; it's about building confidence in the evidence that shapes national health policies. I am proud to have contributed to strengthening our health systems through this work. I am grateful to the dedicated teams at the Centre of Excellence for Health Systems & UHC, BRAC JPGSPH, and our partners at WHO and DGHS.
